Removing Rodents From Your Home

If you have a mouse problem in your home, you will want to take proactive steps to remove them in as safe and effective a way as possible. There are a few steps you can take to make mice want to leave on their own. If these do not work, then you will need to try trapping or killing them. Here are methods you can try using to remove mice from your home for good.

Clean Your Kitchen

Mice are attracted to the kitchen because of the ample supply of food. Take the time to thoroughly deep-clean your kitchen, removing any crumbs in the process. Make sure there are no areas that have grease spills, as these are a mouse magnet. Vacuum the floor to remove any smaller crumbs that are not easily viewed. Clean your kitchen counters with a bleach/water mixture.

Use Smell To Your Advantage

Mice dislike the smell of peppermint and will avoid being in an area where the scent is noticeable. Put a peppermint plant or two in your home to help keep mice from wanting to be around. You could also dip cotton balls into peppermint oil and place them in closets, under beds, and in other dark areas where mice may be lurking.

The smell of cats will also make mice scramble to get away. Consider getting a new pet to have for a companion. They will also help you remove the mouse problem in your home by hunting them in the night.

Trapping Mice

You can trap mice using traps that can be purchased from any hardware or home goods store. No-kill traps consist of a cube made of plastic that has a small hinged door that only opens inwards. Place some peanut butter inside and set it in an area where mice are suspected to be dwelling. Check them periodically and let the mice outdoors far from the house when you catch them.

Killing Mice

Other trapping methods involve the killing of mice. You can buy snapping mouse traps or glue mouse traps to try to catch and kill mice. Another kind of trapping and killing method is a poison bait trap. The mouse will eat the bait and then die a few hours later.  If you have small children or pets in the home, these may be dangerous. You may want to hire an exterminator to rid your home of the problem instead. For more information, contact a company like City Service Exterminator Co Inc.
